Valve has officially announced that 2023 is the last year that Steam supports Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 operating systems. According to the announcement, from January 1, 2024, the Steam client will not run on these OSes – if the owners of such systems plan to use the Valve service in the future, the company recommends switching to a newer operating system.

As Valve explains, this is due to the fact that the new Steam features use the built-in version of the Google Chrome browser, which, in turn, already lost support for these versions of Windows earlier this year. Additionally, future versions of Steam will use security features that are only available in Windows 10 and later.
