Marvel actor Jonathan Majors arrested on assault charge

Jonathan Majors, the actor who plays the villain Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was arrested in New York last weekend for allegedly assaulting a woman. First it was reported by publication TMZ.

Police responded to the call and found a 30-year-old woman who appeared to have been assaulted. The woman said Majors punched her in the face, “causing substantial pain and a laceration behind her ear,” according to a criminal complaint, received by ABC News. Upon arriving at the scene and seeing the injured woman, the police arrested Majors.

Later that day, the actor appeared in court, where he was charged with harassment and attempted assault. He was released, and the next court session was scheduled for May 8.

“He has done nothing wrong,” Majors representative told CNN. “We look forward to the opportunity to clear his name and clarify the situation.”

The arrest and charges come at a time when Majors’ fame is at its peak. After gaining recognition for Lovecraft Country and The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Majors began receiving roles in major films, several of which hit the screens in early 2023. Among them are Creed – 3 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania.

There is no word yet on whether this arrest and indictment will change anything, but the US Army has already withdrawn its commercial featuring Majors.

“While Mr. Majors is innocent until proven guilty, prudence dictates that we pull our ads until the investigation into these allegations is complete,” AEMO said in a statement to CNN.

Majors’ future roles in the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in which he was supposed to become a new villain, remain in question.
