Angry Birds is a cult game of the smartphone era. It became one of the first projects that reached such heights of popularity. So it’s no surprise that the news that developer Rovio is going to remove Angry Birds from the Play Store has been met with sadness by many. However, this may not be the end of the game.

Let me remind you that in March 2022, Rovio Classics: Angry Birds was released – a remake of the original Angry Birds. It did not last even a year, because later the game was removed from the Play Store, and in the App Store it was renamed to Red’s First Flight.

Rovio Classics: Angry Birds was offered as a one-time purchase, with no in-game microtransactions. Rovio said the scheme was not profitable enough. The company noted that users usually do not want to buy a paid game, instead choosing free-to-play options. And in general, the re-release of the game last March negatively affected the popularity of other games from Rovio’s portfolio (and the sequels of the original Angry Birds are distributed according to the free-to-play principle).

Rovio may re-release the original Angry Birds game on the Play Store under a different name

It’s possible that Rovio Classics: Angry Birds will return to the Play Store with the same title currently being tested on the App Store (Red’s First Flight). However, it is worth waiting for further statements from the company. If you already managed to purchase Rovio Classics: Angry Birds, you can still download it from the Play Store. iPhone and iPad users can find the game in the App Store under the name Red’s First Flight.
