Elon Musk seems to be interested in the development of a competitor to ChatGPT
In recent weeks, Elon Musk has contacted artificial intelligence researchers about developing an alternative to the ChatGPT chatbot created by OpenAI.
The billionaire approached Igor Babushkin, an AI researcher who previously worked on Alphabet’s DeepMind AI, with a proposal to create a research lab, reports The Information, citing people with direct knowledge of the efforts.
Musk founded OpenAI in 2015 with Sam Altman, president of startup accelerator Y Combinator, to oversee the development of AI, and served as its chairman until 2018, before stepping down over concerns of a conflict of interest. Musk later cut ties with OpenAI.
This announcement comes at a time when the race to expand the use of artificial intelligence is gaining momentum. OpenAI’s ChatGPT and its competitors such as Google’s Bard have the potential to dramatically change our lives on the Internet by generating responses to emails, summarizing reports, and answering our questions.
Musk and Babushkin have discussed creating a team to research AI, but the project is still in its early stages and there are no concrete plans to develop specific products, The Information reports. Babushkin also told the publication that he did not officially join the project.
