The announcement of the new iPhone line is still about seven months away, but the rumors about the new products are getting bigger and bigger. Moreover, the iPhone 15 series should receive USB-C ports for the first time to comply with European legislation on a single standard for charging devices. If you believe the new data, you will have to buy only certified accessories to use all the possibilities of USB-C ports.

Smartphones will receive an integrated circuit that will recognize whether the accessory has MFi certification. Apple began installing such chips back in 2012, along with the use of Lightning ports. And if you connect an uncertified cable to the iPhone, you may receive a message that this accessory is not supported.

This policy of the company is due to the fact that Apple can have additional earnings from the certification of third-party accessories, but also to fight against fakes and potentially dangerous devices.

At the same time, it is worth noting that the iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air and iPad Pro tablets, which are equipped with a USB-C port, do not have such a chip for authenticating accessories. So the iPhone 15 could be the company’s first products equipped with an integrated circuit for USB-C verification.

It is not yet clear whether uncertified accessories will be limited in functionality. It is quite possible that Apple will set a limit on charging power or data transfer speed. By the way, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus should get a USB-C port with USB 2.0 speed, while only the Pro models will get a high-speed port. So, in fact, nothing will change for users of younger iPhones with the transition to USB-C – only the shape of the connector.
