The police reported the details of the incident with the “stalking” of Elon Musk
Last week, Elon Musk tweeted that someone was stalking a car carrying one of his children and that the stalker blocked the car and climbed onto its hood. After that, Twitter launched a campaign to block accounts that Musk accused of doxing, in particular the ElonJet bot and its author.
A statement from local police provided the first official account of what happened. Police confirmed they had received a report of an incident involving two cars, but said a member of Elon Musk’s security team was now a suspect in the investigation, rather than a victim.
A 29-year-old Connecticut resident told South Pasadena police that a driver in another vehicle confronted him in a parking lot, accused him of following him on the 110 Freeway, then hit the man with his car as he backed out of the parking lot.
South Pasadena police learned last Thursday that the suspect involved in the case is a member of Elon Musk’s security team, the department said in a statement.
A South Pasadena city official said the department is now contacting Elon Musk’s team in an effort to investigate both sides of the incident and get statements from everyone involved. Detectives are reviewing video footage of the incident, the police department said.
The Washington Post reported they identified the alleged stalker, who confirmed to the media that he was the one on the video and that he had reported the incident to the police.
The man said he was an UberEats delivery driver and “made several bizarre and unsupported claims, including that he believed Grimes (whose real name is Claire Boucher and who lives in a house near the gas station where the altercation took place – ed .) was sending him coded messages through her Instagram posts; that Musk was monitoring his real-time location; and that Musk could control Uber Eats to block him from receiving delivery orders.”
A 29-year-old Connecticut resident told police he stopped in the parking lot to make a phone call. He said that while he was standing in the parking lot, another vehicle stopped in front of him, blocking his path, and the driver approached him, accusing him of following him on the freeway.
The victim and the driver who confronted him filmed their argument, police said. When the suspect was leaving the parking lot, “he hit the victim with his car.”
After the police arrived at the scene, the suspect had already left the area. The Connecticut resident did not “identify the suspect or indicate the altercation was anything more than coincidental,” the investigation said.
Musk tweeted that his child was in a car followed by a “stalker.” Authorities said Musk was not in the car, and it is not yet clear if any of his family members were there.
