It appears that things are going badly for Tumblr because this once popular and now almost half-forgotten social network has decided to revise its content rules, allowing eroticism and nudity to return to the platform.

“We now welcome a wider range of expression, creativity, and art on Tumblr, including content depicting the human body (yes, that includes the naked human body),” the official Tumblr blog post states, “So even if your work contains nudity, adult themes, or sexual topics, you can now share it on Tumblr using the appropriate community tag, so everyone can control the types of content they see in their feed.”

This is not a complete return to the days when porn was fully allowed on the platform and made up a prominent part of the content of this social network, as it goes on to say that “visual depictions of sexually explicit acts remain prohibited on Tumblr.”

The ban on porn, erotica, and even classic works of art that contained nude images began on Tumblr after the social network’s app was removed by the Apple App Store following accusations of distributing child pornography. Tumblr introduced strict automatic content control, which led to the removal of numerous, even non-pornographic blogs and a significant outflow of users.

Thereafter, the number of Tumblr users began to decline, and it is not a fact that the easing of restrictions will return the social network to popularity. Unless Musk finally buries Twitter.
