Apple’s A17 and M3 will be the first 3-nanometer processors
So far, analysts have not agreed on the dates, but everything points to the fact that next year the new MacBook Pro and iPhone 15 Pro models should receive 3-nanometer processors. In this way, Apple (together with the manufacturer TSMC) will be the first on the market with such technology.
As noted by Nikkei Asia, TSMC is currently improving the chip manufacturing technology, which has been named N3E. There are three unnamed sources who confirm that it will be used to make the A17 for the iPhone 15 Pro at the end of next year. In addition, two sources noted that the next chips for the MacBook Pro will also be manufactured using a 3-nanometer process.
Apple’s new policy of more powerful processors for iPhone Pro models is also expected to remain.
Earlier, TSMC talked about the new technology at a technology symposium in Xinjiang. N3E will allow you to get better performance and energy efficiency. Such processors can be used both in smartphones and laptops. TSMC and Samsung hope to begin production this year. Intel also had plans to order such chips in late 2022-early 2023, but those plans have been pushed back to 2024.
