Microsoft is again testing the Taskbar for tablets on Windows 11
Microsoft does not stop trying to make Windows 11 more tablet-friendly: the company is returning to the idea of the Taskbar, optimized for use on devices with touch screens. For the first time, it tried to implement such a Panel back in February, but later “returned” it for revision.
And now, half a year later, Microsoft has again introduced the “touch” Taskbar in the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25197 test build for Windows Insiders. According to the company, it is only available for 2-in-1 devices, i.e. “transformer” laptops, but not for regular laptops or desktops.
When such a “transformer” switches to tablet mode (for example, the keyboard is disconnected from it or it “folds” into the form of a tablet), the Taskbar automatically shrinks into an inactive state, and only “critical” information is displayed on it – time, charge level, etc.
In the “expanded” state, program icons, the Start button, and widgets appear on the Taskbar, and it becomes larger compared to the “traditional” version for more convenient use on the touch screen.
In addition, Insider Preview Build 25197 also makes cosmetic changes to the system tray (slightly different handling of hover icons) and adds animated icons to the navigation bar of the Settings system app.
