The release of iPadOS 16 will be delayed by a month

Usually, major updates to the iPadOS and iOS operating systems are released at the same time. Traditionally, this happens with the release of new iPhones in the fall. But this year, this tradition will be broken.

This was reported by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg with reference to Apple’s own sources.

Such a delay is explained by the company’s increased desire to improve multitasking. One of the main features of the new OS for iPad tablets is the Stage Manager function, which received its share of criticism from developers and users already in the beta stage. In addition to bugs (which are inherent in betas), testers complained about a confusing interface and lack of compatibility with most iPad models (currently only models with Apple M1 chips are supported).

In addition, it will allow attracting more resources to the completion of work on iOS 16, the release of which is not delayed. It should take place in September. And the delay with the release of the iPadOS update will now bring the new OS closer to the release of the next iPad models with Apple M2 processors and faster “basic” iPads.

Perhaps this is what the company planned from the very beginning, because even the public beta version of iPadOS 16 became available later than iOS 16. The spokeswoman of the company refused to comment on the situation to Mark.
