Elon Musk to Tesla executives: go to the office or quit

A screenshot of Elon Musk’s letter to Tesla executives demanding from them to return to the office was published on Twitter. As you know, the new coronavirus pandemic has forced companies to move staff to remote work and many people like to work from home without spending time and money on the road. Therefore, it is a problem for companies to return employees to the offices. To solve it, they turn to the hybrid model, when employees visit the workplace in the office on certain days or as needed. However, not in the case of Tesla, at least for now.

In a published letter, Elon Musk requires the senior management of his company to spend at least 40 hours a week in the office, i.e. 8 hours in 5 working days. It is difficult to say whether this rule will apply to all Tesla employees, the company has not yet commented. However, when asked on Twitter “any additional comment to people who think coming into work is an antiquated concept?” Elon Musk replied: “They must pretend to work somewhere else”.

In his letter, Elon Musk writes:

“Anyone who wishes to do remote work must be in the office for a minimum (and I mean ‘minimum’) of 40 hours per week or depart Tesla. This is less than we ask of factory workers.

If there are particularly exceptional contributions and for whom this is not possible, I will review and approve these exceptions directly.

Moreover, the ‘office’ must be a main Tesla office, not a remote branch office unrelated to the job duties, for example, being responsible for Fremont factory human relations, but having your office be in another state.”

So we can conclude that Tesla will not try to resort to hybrid models, but rather will gradually return employees to offices, starting with managers.
