The Ministry of Finance calls on Valve to resume payments to Ukrainian developers

Online gaming platform Steam owned by Valve Corporation, stopped paying developers from Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus last month. Currently, the Ministry of Digital Transformation asks Valve to resume payments for Ukrainians. It was reported by the Deputy Minister Oleksandr Borniakov, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for IT Development.

Previously Valve explained the suspension of payments by the fact that its bank requires information about intermediary banks for transfers in Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. The company is working on new requirements and gathering information, but this may take time. Steam developers have been advised to wait or indicate a bank that does not operate in these countries.

In an appeal to Valve the Head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov noted that no Ukrainian bank is subject to sanctions, unlike Russian ones. In addition, no other platform stopped paying Ukrainians during the war.

The Ministry is awaiting clarification from Valve. Fedorov also called on the company to announce the name of the bank, which needs additional information, and the legal basis for this claim.
