Remedy and Rockstar are remaking the first two Max Payne games

Remedy Entertainment is developing the remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. Finnish studio will completely remake the cult third-person shooter for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in collaboration with Rockstar Games.

Under the terms of the agreement between the companies, Rockstar will finance the project “in accordance with the typical production of AAA-games from Remedy”. What’s more, the studio will rebuild the games on its proprietary Northlight game engine, the same one Remedy used for their last game Control. Almost three years after its release in 2019, Control remains one of the most beautiful games on PCs and consoles thanks to ray tracing technology.

“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games “We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”

The first Max Payne game was released in 2001. It made Remedy studio famous and started its recognizable storytelling style. The game was also one of the first with the bullet-time effect, which became popular thanks to the Matrix. Two years later, Remedy released the second part of the game – The Fall of Max Payne. Rockstar published both games before developing the third and currently the last in the series independently.
